SPORTS EQUIPMENT MANAGER 1
Definition
Serve as a working supervisor in the operation and maintenance of sports or recreation facilities and equipment.
Distinguishing Characteristics
Positions in this class are distinguished by supervisory and inventory responsibilities under direction of a Sports Equipment Manager 2, within a large athletic unit, or under direction of an Administrative Manager of a smaller athletic unit.
Typical Work
Direct subordinates in the issue and receipt of athletic equipment, laundry items, locks, and baskets;
Maintain required health, safety, and security practices in locker room and games areas; maintain records of equipment purchases and utilization;
Repair damaged or work athletic equipment;
Coordinate with faculty and students on requirements for new equipment, or use of existing equipment;
Supervise preparation of athletic field areas for use in soccer, field hockey, baseball, football, badminton, basketball, volleyball, etc;
Use correct procedures to include proper water and steam temperatures, and correct types and amounts of soaps and bleaches in washing and drying athletic clothing;
Direct assistants in maintaining cleanliness of locker room, gymnasium, and games areas;
May issue equipment and supplies;
Perform related duties as required.

Legal Requirement(s)
There may be instances where individual positions must have additional licenses or certification. It is the employer’s responsibility to ensure the appropriate licenses/certifications are obtained for each position.
Desirable Qualifications
High School graduation and three years of full-time experience servicing locker room equipment and/or games areas. Six months of additional related experience may be substituted for educational requirements.
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
