Directs physical therapy programs and supervises physical therapy staff. Performs assessments, plans and administers physical therapy; develops, implements and monitors performance standards, policies and procedures to ensure cross unit standardization and quality control in physical therapy services.

Under general direction, supervises assigned staff, develops clinical and student programs, and provides direction and treatment for physical therapy programs.

Supervises staff including interviewing and recommending selection of applicants, training employees, assigning and scheduling work, acting upon leave requests, conducting annual performance evaluations, and recommending disciplinary action;

Plans, organizes, and directs physical therapy program; confers with medical and other staff members to coordinate physical therapy program with related treatment programs; carries out physician's instructions regarding patient treatment;

Interviews incoming patients to explain purpose and value of prescribed treatment activities;

Reviews work by analyzing reports and personal observation of patient responses, progress, or regression;

Makes periodic inspections to ensure proper housekeeping and observance of safety precautions;

Writes progress letters concerning patients, termination reports on discharged patients, and reports evaluating patients;

Develops quality control methods for private sector programs and monitors them using on-site visits, consultations, and structured reviews; collects and analyzes data from these programs to determine quality of service and cost effectiveness;

Consults with employers and providers regarding Labor and Industries standards;

Performs ergonomic analysis, physical capacity assessments, hand evaluations, job analysis and/or job modifications as part of the return-to-work process; prepares written reports summarizing findings and makes recommendations to assist return-to-work or for prevention of injury;

Provides training and consultation in ergonomics, job analysis, job modification, and provider program issues;

Develops, institutes, and evaluates student programs;

Develops and assesses treatment protocols, clinical programs, and home exercise programs;

Advises staff and provides treatment in area(s)of clinical expertise;

Attends and conducts continuing education courses in physical therapy and related clinical specialty area(s);

Instructs other team members on patient-specific therapy techniques;

Performs the work of Physical Therapist 3;

Performs related duties as required.

Knowledge of: skeletal, muscular, and neural-anatomy; mental illness; physical therapy administration; safety precautions; ergonomics; evaluative report writing.

Ability to: direct physical therapy program; establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, physicians, and staff; supervise and instruct others.

Current Washington State license to practice as a Physical Therapist.

A Bachelor’s degree from a recognized school of physical therapy or completion of a Physical Therapy program, AND 2½ years of experience in the practice of physical therapy to include six months of supervisory experience.
