Definition

Supervise printing and duplication specialists and/or other staff engaged in duplicating services; coordinate requests for duplicating services; maintain records and supplies.

Typical Work

Interprets and ensures compliance with organizational rules, policies, and procedures; evaluates and makes authorized decisions regarding situations requiring deviation or exception from normal procedures; recommends unit policy and implements procedures; writes and/or maintains procedure manuals;

Participates in the development and implementation of policies;

Prepares budget requests and monitors assigned budgets; monitors cash receipts and funds;

Plans for equipment needs of units; oversees equipment upkeep, service, and repair; ensures maintenance of supply inventory;

Maintains production and inventory records; calculates and authorizes billing for supplies and services provided; processes chargebacks; adjusts pricing when necessary;

Prepares annual, operational, and other unit reports;

With delegated authority, interviews and recommends selection of applicants, trains new employees, assigns and schedule work, acts upon leave requests, conducts annual performance evaluations, and recommends disciplinary action;

Establishes job schedules and makes final production decisions; ensures quality control; resolves job related problems with customers;

Knowledge and Abilities

Knowledge of: plate preparation and layout work; grades, weights, and kinds of paper; inks and chemicals used in duplicating machine work; safety procedures, hazardous chemicals involved in printing operations

Ability to: operate offset duplicating machine capable of volume reproduction of typed, handwritten and photographic material; operate photographic master unit, power paper cutter, and related equipment; meet deadlines and production requirements; follow written and oral instructions.

Legal Requirement(s)

There may be instances where individual positions must have additional licenses or certification. It is the employer’s responsibility to ensure the appropriate licenses/certifications are obtained for each position.

Desirable Qualifications

High school graduation or equivalent and three years’ experience in the functional operations of a print shop, duplicating services office, or four years’ experience in operating offset printing equipment with at least 11 x 18 inch plates. Some positions allow completion of a vocational school reprographics program for one year of the required experience.
