Definition

Keeps area and facilities of State park, beach, or historical monument clean and orderly.

Typical Work

Keeps beach, park, or historical unit clean and orderly by collecting and disposing of garbage and litter, cleaning fire rings and fireplaces, and cleaning public restrooms; 

Washes windows, scrubs floors, restrooms, and garbage cans; 

Answers questions and gives directions to public; explains park rules, reports violations to Park Ranger; 

Drives light truck to transport supplies and equipment, haul refuse and garbage, and for any miscellaneous hauling jobs within park; 

Performs grounds maintenance work, such as, cutting grass, weeding flower beds, pruning shrubs, and raking up leaves and litter; 

Registers campers and collects camping fees; 

Performs other work as required.

Knowledge and Abilities

Ability to:  learn work procedures and park rules and regulations quickly; perform varied manual tasks, some disagreeable; operate mechanical equipment; meet public in a courteous and friendly manner; satisfy complaining or irate park clientele, using tact and diplomacy, as well as mature judgment; follow directions.

Legal Requirement(s)

Must possess valid driver's license. 

There may be instances where individual positions must have additional licenses or certification. It is the employer’s responsibility to ensure the appropriate licenses/certifications are obtained for each position.

Desirable Qualifications

Minimum age 18.  Appointments of 17 year olds may be made with the approval of the Director of Parks and a work permit from the Department of Labor and Industries
