In the Department of Ecology, installs, operates and maintains a statewide air monitoring telemetry system.

Researches, engineers, and provides detailed drawings and documentation of original components constructed to interface with the telemetry network;

Documents modifications to vendor supplied equipment which includes portable and remote calibration devices, test equipment, transmitters, receivers, analyzers, chart recorders and all other air quality monitoring equipment;

Fabricates and wires telemetry components and devices which requires the layout of printed circuit assemblies, including chassis and panels; drilling, assembly, wiring, and painting of components; (completed component(s) must be calibrated to ensure that they are operating within specifications, are reliable, and interface properly with other components within the telemetry network);

Calibrates at 120-day intervals telemetry devices (data loggers, FSK transmitters, and FSK receivers) located at air monitoring sites throughout the state;

Maintains and repairs 20 different types of electronic devices associated with the telemetry system;

Maintains the computer including diagnosing computer failures or malfunctions, making adjustments, corrections, and replacing parts or components as required;

Programs machine language and modifies vendor supplied software;

Logs and reviews air quality data from the telemetry system for validity and accuracy, which comes from the master console of the computer;

Confers with industry, local air authorities, telephone companies, vendors and other persons;

Performs other work as required.

There may be instances where individual positions must have additional licenses or certification. It is the employer’s responsibility to ensure the appropriate licenses/certifications are obtained for each position.

A Bachelor's degree in computer science, electrical engineering, or closely allied field AND two years of experience in the design, installation, maintenance and repair of computerized telemetry systems.

An Associate's degree in electronics technology, computer science or closely allied field AND four years of experience in the design, installation, maintenance and repair of computerized telemetry systems. 

Additional qualifying experience may be substituted, year for year, for education.
