Definition

Plans, coordinates, estimates, and schedules maintenance and construction projects.

Typical Work

Evaluates requests by agency customers (facility tenants) to estimate, plan, coordinate and schedule maintenance and construction activities; 

Coordinates, estimates and plans with customers on facility management organization related work requirements; 

Using project documents, inspects job site, communicating with requestor to determine the exact intent of work; assures project meets fire safety, building, environmental and construction codes and regulations; inspects job; 

Estimates material and work hours necessary to accomplish project; coordinates ordering of unique project material; 

Obtains necessary permits to accomplish work; 

Issues appropriate documentation to units of facility maintenance organization for action; monitors scheduling between units for completion; 

Initiates and supervises minor public works contracts, including inspections and management of contract projects; 

Performs other work as required.

Knowledge and Abilities

Knowledge of:  building trades, contracting procedures and management of minor public works type contracts; minor designing for alterations to structures and utilities. 

Ability to:  estimate work hours and material needed for minor building alterations or modifications up to $25,000; read blueprints and make material and work hour estimates based on drawings, designs, or contract documents; communicate technical information both orally and in writing with both technical/trades and nontechnical personnel; relate well with both customers and facility organization personnel.

There may be instances where individual positions must have additional licenses or certification.  It is the employer’s responsibility to ensure the appropriate licenses/certifications are obtained for each position.

Desirable Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree in building construction, industrial engineering or related field. 

                                                                           AND 

Two years of experience planning, scheduling or coordinating facility maintenance and construction projects.  Additional experience in planning, scheduling, or coordinating facility maintenance and construction projects may be substituted, year for year, for education.
