Performs skilled shipwright work in the maintenance and repair of marine vessels, docks, floats, gangways, fendering, lighting, and vessel dry-dock equipment.

Plans, directs and inspects the work of incarcerated workers engaged in the maintenance and repair of marine vessels and shore side structures;

Performs marine vessel and shoreside structure repairs in accordance with the marine industry standards and regulations;

Performs marine vessel and shore side structure coating maintenance such as painting, scraping, and surface preparation for wood, metal steel and fiberglass marine vessels and shore side structures;

Plans and directs dry-docking of vessels, including positioning of blocking vessels in dry dock;

Sets-up and breaks down scaffolding, staging and environmental containment;

Performs routine shipyard building and equipment maintenance;

Responds to emergencies such as storm damage and oil spills;

Maintains shop equipment and supplies needed to complete work;

Determines material requirements and inspects work under personal direction;

Assists other staff, contractors and vendors with marine vessel and shoreside structure maintenance and repair work;

Keeps work progress records; submits regular reports verbally and in written form;.

Knowledge of: relevant industry standards and regulations; maintenance and repair processes for marine vessels and various support structures to include docks and ferry slips; marine vessel and building construction standards and practices; coatings; shipyard equipment and tools;

Ability to: supervise incarcerated workers; estimate materials, time and personnel required to accomplish essential tasks; use and maintain tools and equipment needed to accomplish work; follow oral and written instructions; read and interpret blueprints and drawings; maintain logs and records; use Microsoft Office products; perform work in all weather conditions.

Two years of journey-level experience in marine, industrial or construction trades, one year of which must have been in a lead or supervisory capacity.
