As a professional registered engineer in the branch of ship design engineering prepares the most difficult and critical design, specifications, and estimates for marine engineering projects involving vessel construction and refurbishment. May direct the work of lower level designers.

Under the direction of the Senior Naval Architect, prepares the most difficult and critical design, specifications, and estimates for marine engineering projects; prepares designs, specifications, estimates and drawings for construction, modification and repair to the structure, outfitting, machinery, piping and ventilation systems of ferry vessels; maintains coordination with Vessel Masters and Staff Chief Engineers;  

Conducts ship check inspections to review or determine condition of vessels, equipment, and systems;  

Reviews and analyzes designs for contract proposals and work orders for Marine Division forces;  

Prepares final specifications and operating procedures for new equipment acquisition and application;  

Reviews and checks consultant and contractor drawings, specifications, and estimates for technical quality and contractual compliance; recommends adjustments and corrective measures to ensure satisfactory product or service; 

Supervises other professional staff and provides liaison with consultant staff and contractors as required to accomplish assigned projects;  

Performs other related work as required.

Professional registration in the branch of ship design engineering.  

AND 

One year of professional experience in the marine engineering or naval architectural field performing vessel structures or systems design, or as a shipyard project inspector.
