Definition

Performs skilled subprofessional work in design and development of park projects.

Typical Work

Lays out, sketches, renders, drafts, and details park designs, as assigned; 

Assists professional park planners, landscape architects, and other personnel field as rodman, chainman, or operator of alidade, dumpy level, or transit; 

Computes cost estimates of implementation of park designs, based upon office records; 

Maintains map and plan files up‑to‑date and in proper order; 

May supervise and instruct unskilled engineering, planner, or forestry aides, as assigned; 

Performs other work as required.

Knowledge and Abilities

Knowledge of:  principles, practices, and instruments used in sketching, rendering, and drafting of park designs, fundamentals of surveying. 

Ability to: perform skilled work in layout and drafting of landscape architectural and park development plans, including sketches, renderings, perspectives, and detailed drawings; compute cost of implementing development plans, based upon office records; use construction handbooks, catalogs, and other complex documents in selection of dimensions, standards, and equipment; operate alidade, dumpy level, or transit on preliminary layout work, but not ordinarily for actual construction; travel frequently around State.

Desirable Qualifications

Graduation from high school and three years of experience as parks planning assistant, engineering aide, forestry aide, geologic aide, or closely related work. 

College education in park planning, architecture, landscape architecture, engineering, or closely allied field may be substituted, year for year, for experience. 

College education with major in forestry, geology, or closely allied field may be substituted, year for year, for a maximum of two years of experience provided that post‑high‑school course in engineering or architectural drafting or equivalent has been completed.
