Definition

Under the direction of a Community Corrections professional, performs assigned technical and/or administrative casework functions, which require program knowledge and independent judgment.

Distinguishing Characteristics

Incumbents in this class are distinguished from those in the Community Corrections Officer series by their restriction from making any decisions regarding offenders that would result in a significant change being made in the case.  This would include, but is not limited to, any decision that would invoke a loss of liberty, search or seizure.

 

Positions at this level work under general supervision, and have extensive contact with individuals under community supervision and outside entities, such as Judges, Prosecuting Attorneys, Defense Teams and Law Enforcement. Unusual problems, probable outcomes and solutions are presented to higher levels for resolution. Incumbents assist higher-level staff with developing and coordinating community corrections casework activities.

 

Typical Work

Under the direction of a Community Corrections Officer, serves as the Drug Offender Sentencing Alternative (DOSA) court liaison;

Tracks and monitors DOSA offenders and cases to determine compliance with court ordered Chemical Dependency treatment; relays to the court the sanctions and requirements for out of county community corrections officers;

Provides testimony before the court as to violations and presents recommendations that have been staffed with supervising community corrections officers.

Conducts Legal Financial Obligation (LFO) payment reviews to include: monitoring of cases, recoupment actions, reporting, makes payment schedule determinations, conducts client intakes, generates LFO correspondence, Court orders/requirements, updates address changes, produces reports (specials/violations), prepares notice of payroll deductions;

Screens records, performs required file maintenance, prepares records for transfer/closure and completes appropriate OBTS update actions as necessary; prepares files for court or hearing actions;

Reviews files for compliance verification, researches, compiles and evaluates data through record checks, various computer programs/reports, collateral contacts and prepares reports for professional staff;

Requests, reviews, processes and takes appropriate actions on administrative batch reports;

May assist Community Service Coordinator or Community Involvement Coordinator in administering their programs by performing such tasks as conducting background investigations, monitors participation, updates and maintains offender and volunteer hours, prepares appropriate reports;

Assists Class V program coordinator by monitoring offender participation and develops and prepares appropriate reports to verify and monitor offender compliance;

Assists in the management of the inmate grievance process;

Responsible for creating and maintaining the offender property inventory system;

Manages offenders at a day reporting center by assigning offenders with daily schedules if not previously done; monitors offenders for successful completion of programs such as MRT, VAEP, CSH, DSAP, SASSI, and attendance at educational classes, participation in job searches, etc.;

Collects urinalysis samples as needed and ensures chain of evidence procedures are followed;

Performs other duties as required.

Legal Requirement(s)

There may be instances where individual positions must have additional licenses or certification. It is the employer’s responsibility to ensure the appropriate licenses/certifications are obtained for each position.

Desirable Qualifications

A Bachelor’s degree.

 

OR

 

Four years of experience in a correctional field office or institution, two years which must be at the senior clerical level or higher.   

 

Note: Qualifying work experience may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis.
