Direct and coordinate the clinical educational program for ultrasound interns. Instruct interns in appropriate scanning techniques and in the analysis of patient clinical presentation in conjunction with findings to determine a differential diagnosis.  Independently perform highly complex non-invasive and invasive diagnostic ultrasound and/or physiologic examinations and assessments on adult, adolescent, geriatric, pregnant, newborn and infant patients to determine the nature and degree of the patient’s disease and to provide accurate diagnostic information used to render a formal, final medical diagnosis; provide written/oral reports of findings to attending physicians and clinical staff.

Under general direction, coordinate ultrasound educational programs for ultrasound interns. Coordinate intern affiliation programs within clinical service; provide in-service programs and/or health care community training programs in clinical expertise. Direct the instruction, assignment of work, and the evaluation of ultrasound interns.

Direct the work of ultrasound interns assigned to clinical area including instructing interns during scanning and after image acquisition, assigning work, assessing progress, reporting misconduct to the affiliate organization, and evaluating performance for midterm and final grade for submission to affiliate registrar; 

Coordinate research activities for interns; 

Create a positive learning environment; 

Ensure standards and protocols are met for affiliation program; monitor quality assurance activities; 

Coordinate ultrasound intern program; 

Develop and maintain intern policy and procedure manual in accordance with clinical affiliate and the medical center; 

Maintain affiliation agreement records as provided by the affiliate and participate in the program development and accreditation process; 

Collect and direct quarterly funds from affiliate to appropriate radiology educational fund; 

Provide intern with instructions and resources (protocols, literature, time schedules) needed to fulfill educational goals; utilize teaching file cases; 

Develop and present inservices to interns in clinical specialty areas; 

Perform the work of Diagnostic Medical Sonographer Specialist; 

Perform related duties as required.

There may be instances where individual positions must have additional licenses or certification. It is the employer’s responsibility to ensure the appropriate licenses/certifications are obtained for each position.

Completion of diagnostic ultrasound program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) 

AND 

Registered in abdominal and obstetrical ultrasound by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) 

AND 

Three years of experience performing the work of a diagnostic medical sonographer 

Equivalent education/experience.
