Definition

As a member of a health care team, perform basic professional social work services and/or teach and consult with relevant staff regarding specific client/patient care and/or conduct research projects or studies.

Distinguishing Characteristics

Under general supervision, provide social work services to clients/patients or client/patient families and/or others; and/or participate in health sciences research; and/or participate in teaching activities.

Typical Work

Consults with assigned health care teams regarding psychosocially focused aspects of client/patient care;

Represents the Social Work Department with hospital, university, and community groups;

Performs the duties of Social Work Resident;

Performs related duties as required.

Legal Requirement(s)

There may be instances where individual positions must have additional licenses or certification. It is the employer’s responsibility to ensure the appropriate licenses/certifications are obtained for each position.

Desirable Qualifications

A Master of Social Work Degree from a program accredited by the Council of Social Work Education AND six months of experience in a health care delivery system.

OR

Equivalent education/experience.

Health care experience can include a practicum placement as part of a social work training program and/or employment experience.
