Distinguishing Characteristics
Typical Work
Develops long range program vision, planning and execution of plan, recommending adoption, approval or endorsement;
Coordinates program activities intra- and inter-departmentally including the marketing aspects of the program;
Assists with the preparation and monitoring of the annual budget for the program;
Develops, reviews, and updates policies and procedures in the specific program;
Develops and maintains work schedules and/or assures work records are accurately maintained and processed;
Participates in pharmacy staff development, new employee orientation and training;
Directs the work of staff which may include interns, assistants, and pharmacists;
Serves on hospital and pharmacy committees;
Coordinates the reporting of respective program activities for regulatory and accrediting agencies;
Participates in quality improvement and quality assurance programs;
Maintains control of inventories, proper documentation or record maintenance for the program;
Participates in research studies in the program;
May lead staff;
Performs the duties of a Pharmacist 3;
Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of: standard practices followed in compounding, filling, labeling, and distributing medical prescriptions; various medications, pharmaceuticals, and other medical supplies and solutions used in compounding and dispensing medications; pharmaceutical arithmetic; medical terms; classification of medications according to their action, use, and dosage; procedures related to medication supply work; use of weights, measures, and other dispensing devices; and record keeping and inventory procedures.
