Class Series Concept
Provides nutritional services directly to patients and nursing units.
Definition
Delivers and picks up meals, nourishments and tube feedings to patients; records patient food intake; acts as a liaison between the patient and the department.
Distinguishing Characteristics
Under general supervision, provides basic nutritional services to patients such as distribution and pick-up of meals.
Typical Work
Delivers meals, nourishments and tube feeding in accordance with patient diet orders; picks up food trays from patients;
Serves in a guest relations role to patients and visitors; relays patient food requests/comments to Dietetic Technicians;
Delivers or relays messages from nursing and other health care staff to the department;
Records food intake of selected patients;
Delivers and picks up patient food preference sheets;
May direct the work of student trainees and staff;
Performs related duties as required.

Desirable Qualifications
One year of food service experience in a health care setting
OR
Equivalent education/experience.
