Definition

Supervise employees in the movement, delivery, or disposal of supplies, equipment, materials, and refuse by motor vehicle.

Distinguishing Characteristics

With delegated authority, interview and recommend selection of applicants, conduct training, assign and schedule work, act upon leave requests, conduct annual performance evaluations and recommend disciplinary action.

Typical Work

Assigns, schedules, and directs work of delivery drivers, refuse collectors, clerical personnel, and temporary help in moving furniture and equipment, setting up bleachers, chairs, or furniture, and transporting a variety of supplies and equipment within campus and off campus;

Using a manual or automated system, maintains records necessary for the determination of labor costs, motor vehicle costs, overhead costs, and direct charges; determines billings to departments;

Arranges for maintenance and repair of delivery trucks, vans, forklifts, and hand equipment incidental to transportation of supplies and equipment;

Directs the pickup, delivery and disposal of surplus property within the campus, maintains surplus property records, and coordinates sale/disposal of surplus property;

Coordinates special moving projects within campus to accommodate office moves;

May resolve problems related to freight received;

Performs related duties as required.

There may be instances where individual positions must have additional licenses or certification. It is the employer’s responsibility to ensure the appropriate licenses/certifications are obtained for each position.

Desirable Qualifications

High school graduation or equivalent AND three years of experience in transportation service work including one year in lead or supervisory status
