Definition
This is the specialist, or leadworker level of the series. Leads assigned crew and performs a variety of assignments in general farming work which may include, assisting in the care and management of livestock, or operating a variety of light, medium, and heavy farm equipment. Regularly assigns, instructs, and checks the work of others. May supervise and train lower laborers, livestock attendants, farm workers, and part-time helpers.
Typical Work
Directs the harvesting and packing of fruits, grains, or vegetables;
Prepares cost reports and maintains records of yields and related information;
Inspects livestock, farm buildings, and equipment; ensures cleanliness, orderliness, and proper repairs;
Observes animals for symptoms indicating disease, for reproductive phenomena such as estrus, approaching parturition, or other behavioral phenomena; administers prescribed treatment for minor ailments and injuries;
May supervise lower level staff.
