Definition

Assists the pharmacist in general pharmacy activities such as stocking shelves and keeping records of supplies ordered and on hand. Performs all duties under the direct supervision of a registered pharmacist.

Typical Work

Operates equipment used in the preparation of labels, pharmacy patient medication profiles, and other pharmacy records such as typewriters, word processors, etc.; 

Maintains patient medication profile systems and other pharmacy record systems;  

Assists in ongoing surveillance and screening of outdated drug supplies;  

Monitors drug stocks and assists in procurement procedures;  

Restocks pharmacy shelves on receipt of new supply orders;  

Delivers dispensed prescription supplies to nursing medication areas;
Performs related duties as required.

Knowledge and Abilities

Knowledge of:  basic principles of pharmacy operations.  

Ability to:  understand oral and written directions from registered pharmacists; operate typewriter and other word processing equipment; organize and plan work effectively.

Legal Requirement(s)

Washington State registration as a pharmacy assistant.
