Definition

Coordinate communications and related activities in a plant operations center.

Distinguishing Characteristics

Positions in this class are distinguished by responsibility for various communications activities in a plant operations center including coordination and/or operation of radio systems, a computerized, centralized building control system, and a centrex telephone system; to receive and interpret "trouble" information, prioritize and initiate appropriate maintenance response.

Typical Work

Coordinate activities of operations center employees; train, give work direction and assist in planning communications procedures;

Operate and monitor a computerized, centralized building control system; interpret data on operating conditions and initiate appropriate responses;

Operate FM radio communications system to dispatch maintenance personnel and ensure compliance with FCC rules;

Monitor the operation of the centrex telephone system;

Maintain a work order system; receive and review trouble requests for service; complete work orders; monitor or initiate action as needed to insure timely and reliable response of shop personnel; maintain work order records;

Prepare activity reports;

Maintain key lockers and records; issue and order keys and make periodic audits of key registers for security purposes;

Perform related duties as required.

Legal Requirement(s)

There may be instances where individual positions must have additional licenses or certification. It is the employer’s responsibility to ensure the appropriate licenses/certifications are obtained for each position.

Desirable Qualifications

High School graduation or GED equivalent and one year of experience in some aspect of shop related work to provide general familiarity with repair and maintenance activities.

Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
