Definition

Supervise assigned personnel engaged in performing a variety of support functions for clinical, biomedical and/or behavioral research studies involving human subjects.

Distinguishing Characteristics

With delegated authority, interview and recommend selection of applicants, train new employees, assign and schedule work, act upon leave requests, conduct annual performance evaluations and recommend disciplinary actions for assigned personnel.

Under general direction, plan and organize the activities of staff engaged in performing a variety of support functions for research studies involving human subjects and requiring the application of knowledge and skills specific to the study.

Typical Work

Plan and organize activities of staff engaged in the coordination of research studies;

Train and orient new staff; prepare policies and procedures for study operations; maintain compliance with study protocol and institution policies and procedures;

In consultation with primary investigator, agencies and other staff, participate in and assist with the formulation of research procedures; establish program goals and timetables; attend and participate in scientific meetings;

Assist in developing research proposals;

Ensure that established guidelines for identifying subject pool and recruiting participants are met; develop clinic procedures and training manuals;

Write or review human subjects applications and consent forms in compliance with applicable regulations;

Implement research protocol and monitor participant compliance; take action to correct problems such as deviation from protocol; verify accuracy of research data;

Summarize research results; prepare reports; assist in writing and editing materials for publication;

Coordinate and provide referral services to research subjects;

Administer grant budgets;

Coordinate recruitment of research subjects;

Review and recommend the purchase of equipment for research studies;

Perform related duties as required.

Desirable Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in relevant academic area pertinent to research study AND three years of experience in applicable field of assignment
